The will in a tunnel is the final station of Bridging ACTs.
This work aims to help the visitor to identify and connect with their personal values, which can serve as a compass for navigating life. By focusing on their values, participants can find purpose and direction, even when faced with challenges or difficult emotions.
Before entering the work, a narrative text is presented:
Walking through this space, you saw sentences and words flowing, neutral and seemingly irrelevant. When you observe this continuous flow, you no longer get stuck on any thought.
How do you see yourself now?
How do you feel about yourself after this experience? What do you see in you?
Bridging_Willingness - The Will in a Tunnel
Life is a process, and pain is inevitable.
Life has ups and downs, like different stations during a journey.
In this infinite tunnel, let’s be brave and keep pushing forward. Some things or feelings will leave, while others stay.
Yet, you continue to move forward.
What truly matters in your life?
Can you keep moving toward this goal without letting negative thoughts hold you back?
This work is a guided meditative experience inspired and modelled by the following quote from the Compendium of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Metaphors by Dr. Colleen Ehrnstrom:
“When we get anxious driving through a tunnel, the best option is to keep going rather than try to escape. This feeling will pass – there is an end to this tunnel.”
On the projection wall, a large constantly forward-moving tunnel is presented. When the visiter walks to the centre, a narrative text written and spoken by Dr. Adrian Tong (and other voices trained using AI) is played back on the loudspeaker on the floor. The visiter is encourage to grasp this tunnel and use this as a metaphor to approach their life.
